rough, tough, hard = difficult  세 가지 모두 어렵단 의미이지만 상황별에 따라 조금 다르다.

 

much effort, a lot of wear-and-tear on you

 

It wears you down. 날 지치게 한다.

 

Physical

 

hard vs soft  "hard"는 물리적으론 딱딱함을 의미

rough vs smooth  "rough"는 물리적으로 거침을 의미

tough (solid, strong, material - hard to tear apart, hard to break) vs not tough, not strong

"tough"는 단단함, 강함을 의미

 

A tough person

 

Physically strong or hard to get along with (personality, attitude)

여기선 물리적으로 강한게 보이는 사람일수도 있지만, 성격이나 태도가 같이 지내기에 너무 강한 사람일수도 있다.

 

He is a tough negotiator.

 

I play hardball. 오늘 힘들었다. (사업, 정치 등에서 공격적, 강경한 태도를 가진 사람과 일을 함께 했을때)

 

anxious 부정적

eager 긍정적 I am eager to do it.

 

I can hardly wait. 기다릴수가 없어.

 

Concerning, regarding, relating to = about

모두 "~에 대한"의 의미로 쓰인다.

 

This concerns me = This has a relationship to me = It's my business.

 

I regard (consider) this as important.

 

We correspond each weak. 여기서 "correspond"는 연락하다란 의미

 

Letters/ mail = correspondence. "correspondence"는 편지, 서신왕래, 통신

 

Is there a corresponding (matching) word in English for this feeling? "corresponding"은 일치하는, 유사한

 

He is thinking in terms of 10 to 20 thousand dollors.

In terms of는 기본적으로 of 과 똑같은 의미로 쓰인다.

 

The term used in law for an injury is a tort.

 

Term = a word used in a specific field or job.

 

as such = as it is "really"

i.e., We are not looking for an accountant as such.

 

literally (100% exactly) <-> virtually (almost)

officially, formally <-> unofficially, informally

 

미국인들이 종종 쓰는 literally는 무언가 강조할때 쓸 경우가 있다.

상황에 따라 officially도 자주 쓰인다.

 

technically = to exactly follow the rule
