● 전화 메세지 남길때 (서양인은 웬만한 친구아니곤 상대방 전화를 모른다.)

예의상 항상 자신의 번호를 남겨야 한다.

● 뭔가 궁금하고 알고싶고 의아할때, 

To wonder = to ask myself 를 사용한다.

 

● synchronize 동시에 일어나다. 시간을 맞추다.

 

syn - together

chron - time

 

● You should study = You'd better study.

 

Last year, you should have studied. → should've

 

● I wanna beer. = I want a beer.

I wanna drive. = I want to drive.

 

I gotta problem. = I've got a problem.

I gotta go. = I've got to go.

 

● I used to = Formally, this is what I did (as a habit)

 

(부정문) I never used to drink tea when I was young.

 

● I am used to = This is what is familiar to me.

 

(부정문) I am not used to drinking tea.

 

● You don't want to unintentioally offend someone. 당신은 무심코 누군가를 상처받게 하고 싶지 않다.

 

1. (일이 꼬였을때, 자세한 상황 설명후) Could you / Would you 사용 의향을 다정하게 물어보기 :)

    말할때나 이메일 쓸때나 항상 말 조심을 해야 한다.

2. Typical 이라던지 상대방이 들었을때 또는 상황에 따라 말을 잘 사용해야 함.

   - Model 등 단어를 이용하여 "이 사람은 한국인의 얼굴의 모델이에요."라고 표현하는 것이 부드러움.

 

● My former teacher > A past teacher > My last (previous) teacher

여기서 last/previous 는 the one just before로써 금방 전의 의미가 있음.

 

즉, ex girlfriend, former (past) girlfriend 는 가능하나 previous 를 쓰면 상당히 바람끼가 있는 표현이 되어버림.

 

● Texas 사람 a Texan

 

● for the last time - the final time 마지막으로

 

Last night, I was having a drink with my ex for the last time when a past boyfriend walked into the bar.

 

● The Japanese (males) have a fascination with (an obsession with) schoolgrils.

 

● Soap opera = a drama on TV that continues a story each day ← authentic, genuine and REAL

Soap opera는 a domestic story = people at home 등이 주요 이야기 거리이다.

 

a drama = a play (serious topic) 연극엔 drama, comedy, musical 등이 있다.

 

a TV series = Each week, an episode (a story with the same characters)
